2016-09-04speed caps: not based on average speeds anymoreOlivier Brunel
Speed limits (from CURLOPT_MAX_RECV_SPEED_LARGE & CURLOPT_MAX_SEND_SPEED_LARGE) were applied simply by comparing limits with the cumulative average speed of the entire transfer; While this might work at times with good/constant connections, in other cases it can result to the limits simply being "ignored" for more than "short bursts" (as told in man page). Consider a download that goes on much slower than the limit for some time (because bandwidth is used elsewhere, server is slow, whatever the reason), then once things get better, curl would simply ignore the limit up until the average speed (since the beginning of the transfer) reached the limit. This could prove the limit useless to effectively avoid using the entire bandwidth (at least for quite some time). So instead, we now use a "moving starting point" as reference, and every time at least as much as the limit as been transferred, we can reset this starting point to the current position. This gets a good limiting effect that applies to the "current speed" with instant reactivity (in case of sudden speed burst). Closes #971

2014-09-07Ensure progress.size_dl/progress.size_ul are always >= 0Brandon Casey
Historically the default "unknown" value for progress.size_dl and progress.size_ul has been zero, since these values are initialized implicitly by the calloc that allocates the curl handle that these variables are a part of. Users of curl that install progress callbacks may expect these values to always be >= 0. Currently it is possible for progress.size_dl and progress.size_ul to by set to a value of -1, if Curl_pgrsSetDownloadSize() or Curl_pgrsSetUploadSize() are passed a "size" of -1 (which a few places currently do, and a following patch will add more). So lets update Curl_pgrsSetDownloadSize() and Curl_pgrsSetUploadSize() so they make sure that these variables always contain a value that is >= 0. Updates test579 and test599. 2014-05-15timers: fix timer regression involving redirects / reconnectsDaniel Stenberg
In commit 0b3750b5c23c25f (released in 7.36.0) we fixed a timeout issue but instead broke the timings. To fix this, I introduce a new timestamp to use for the timeouts and restored the previous timestamp and timestamp position so that the old timer functionality is restored. In addition to that, that change also broke connection timeouts for when more than one connect was used (as it would then count the total time from the first connect and not for the most recent one). Now Curl_timeleft() has been modified so that it checks against different start times depending on which timeout it checks. Test 1303 is updated accordingly. CURLOPT_XFERINFOFUNCTION is now the preferred progress callback function and CURLOPT_PROGRESSFUNCTION is considered deprecated. This new callback uses pure 'curl_off_t' arguments to pass on full resolution sizes. It otherwise retains the same characteristics: the same call rate, the same meanings for the arguments and the return code is used the same way. The progressfunc.c example is updated to show how to use the new callback for newer libcurls while supporting the older one if built with an older libcurl or even built with a newer libcurl while running with an older.

This commit renames lib/setup.h to lib/curl_setup.h and renames lib/setup_once.h to lib/curl_setup_once.h. Removes the need and usage of a header inclusion guard foreign to libcurl. [1] Removes the need and presence of an alarming notice we carried in old setup_once.h [2] ---------------------------------------- 1 - lib/setup_once.h used __SETUP_ONCE_H macro as header inclusion guard up to commit ec691ca3 which changed this to HEADER_CURL_SETUP_ONCE_H, this single inclusion guard is enough to ensure that inclusion of lib/setup_once.h done from lib/setup.h is only done once. Additionally lib/setup.h has always used __SETUP_ONCE_H macro to protect inclusion of setup_once.h even after commit ec691ca3, this was to avoid a circular header inclusion triggered when building a c-ares enabled version with c-ares sources available which also has a setup_once.h header. Commit ec691ca3 exposes the real nature of __SETUP_ONCE_H usage in lib/setup.h, it is a header inclusion guard foreign to libcurl belonging to c-ares's setup_once.h The renaming this commit does, fixes the circular header inclusion, and as such removes the need and usage of a header inclusion guard foreign to libcurl. Macro __SETUP_ONCE_H no longer used in libcurl. 2 - Due to the circular interdependency of old lib/setup_once.h and the c-ares setup_once.h header, old file lib/setup_once.h has carried back from 2006 up to now days an alarming and prominent notice about the need of keeping libcurl's and c-ares's setup_once.h in sync. Given that this commit fixes the circular interdependency, the need and presence of mentioned notice is removed. All mentioned interdependencies come back from now old days when the c-ares project lived inside a curl subdirectory. This commit removes last traces of such fact.

2012-04-01HTTP: reset expected DL/UL sizes on redirectsDaniel Stenberg
With FOLLOWLOCATION enabled. When a 3xx page is downloaded and the download size was known (like with a Content-Length header), but the subsequent URL (transfered after the 3xx page) was chunked encoded, then the previous "known download size" would linger and cause the progress meter to get incorrect information, ie the former value would remain being sent in. This could easily result in downloads that were WAY larger than "expected" and would cause >100% outputs with the curl command line tool. 1- Two new error codes are introduced. CURLE_FTP_ACCEPT_FAILED to be set whenever ACCEPTing fails because of FTP server connected. CURLE_FTP_ACCEPT_TIMEOUT to be set whenever ACCEPTing timeouts. Neither of these errors are considered fatal and control connection remains OK because it could just be a firewall blocking server to connect to the client. 2- One new setopt option was introduced. CURLOPT_ACCEPTTIMEOUT_MS It sets the maximum amount of time FTP client is going to wait for a server to connect. Internal default accept timeout is 60 seconds.

When an easy handle is used to download an URI which has no Content-Length header (or equivalent) after downloading an URI which does, the value from the previous transfer is reused and returned by CURLINFO_CONTENT_LENGTH_DOWNLOAD. The SingleRequest struct is accessed with SessionHandle->req. One of the biggest reasons for doing this was the bunch of duplicate struct members in HandleData and Curl_transfer_keeper since it was really messy to keep track of two variables with the same name and basically the same purpose!
