2020-03-18schannel: add "best effort" revocation check optionJohannes Schindelin
- Implement new option CURLSSLOPT_REVOKE_BEST_EFFORT and --ssl-revoke-best-effort to allow a "best effort" revocation check. A best effort revocation check ignores errors that the revocation check was unable to take place. The reasoning is described in detail below and discussed further in the PR. --- When running e.g. with Fiddler, the schannel backend fails with an unhelpful error message: Unknown error (0x80092012) - The revocation function was unable to check revocation for the certificate. Sadly, many enterprise users who are stuck behind MITM proxies suffer the very same problem. This has been discussed in plenty of issues: https://github.com/curl/curl/issues/3727, https://github.com/curl/curl/issues/264, for example. In the latter, a Microsoft Edge developer even made the case that the common behavior is to ignore issues when a certificate has no recorded distribution point for revocation lists, or when the server is offline. This is also known as "best effort" strategy and addresses the Fiddler issue. Unfortunately, this strategy was not chosen as the default for schannel (and is therefore a backend-specific behavior: OpenSSL seems to happily ignore the offline servers and missing distribution points). To maintain backward-compatibility, we therefore add a new flag (`CURLSSLOPT_REVOKE_BEST_EFFORT`) and a new option (`--ssl-revoke-best-effort`) to select the new behavior. Due to the many related issues Git for Windows and GitHub Desktop, the plan is to make this behavior the default in these software packages. The test 2070 was added to verify this behavior, adapted from 310. 2019-12-05lib: fix some loose ends for recently added CURLSSLOPT_NO_PARTIALCHAINJay Satiro
Add support for CURLSSLOPT_NO_PARTIALCHAIN in CURLOPT_PROXY_SSL_OPTIONS and OS400 package spec. Also I added the option to the NameValue list in the tool even though it isn't exposed as a command-line option (...yet?). (NameValue stringizes the option name for the curl cmd -> libcurl source generator) Follow-up to 564d88a which added CURLSSLOPT_NO_PARTIALCHAIN. Ref: https://github.com/curl/curl/pull/4655
2019-12-01build: Disable Visual Studio warning "conditional expression is constant"Jay Satiro
- Disable warning C4127 "conditional expression is constant" globally in curl_setup.h for when building with Microsoft's compiler. This mainly affects building with the Visual Studio project files found in the projects dir. Prior to this change the cmake and winbuild build systems already disabled 4127 globally for when building with Microsoft's compiler. Also, 4127 was already disabled for all build systems in the limited circumstance of the WHILE_FALSE macro which disabled the warning specifically for while(0). This commit removes the WHILE_FALSE macro and all other cruft in favor of disabling globally in curl_setup. Background: We have various macros that cause 0 or 1 to be evaluated, which would cause warning C4127 in Visual Studio. For example this causes it: #define Curl_resolver_asynch() 1 Full behavior is not clearly defined and inconsistent across versions. However it is documented that since VS 2015 Update 3 Microsoft has addressed this somewhat but not entirely, not warning on while(true) for example. Prior to this change some C4127 warnings occurred when I built with Visual Studio using the generated projects in the projects dir. Closes https://github.com/curl/curl/pull/4658

2017-09-05mime: implement encoders.Patrick Monnerat
curl_mime_encoder() is operational and documented. curl tool -F option is extended with ";encoder=". curl tool --libcurl option generates calls to curl_mime_encoder(). New encoder tests 648 & 649. Test 1404 extended with an encoder specification.

2017-09-03mime: use size_t instead of ssize_t in public API interface.Patrick Monnerat
To support telling a string is nul-terminated, symbol CURL_ZERO_TERMINATED has been introduced. Documentation updated accordingly. symbols in versions updated. Added form API symbols deprecation info.
2017-09-03mime: remove support "-" stdin pseudo-file name in curl_mime_filedata().Patrick Monnerat
This feature is badly supported in Windows: as a replacement, a caller has to use curl_mime_data_cb() with fread, fseek and possibly fclose callbacks to process opened files. The cli tool and documentation are updated accordingly. The feature is however kept internally for form API compatibility, with the known caveats it always had. As a side effect, stdin size is not determined by the cli tool even if possible and this results in a chunked transfer encoding. Test 173 is updated accordingly.

2016-11-24proxy: Support HTTPS proxy and SOCKS+HTTP(s)Alex Rousskov
* HTTPS proxies: An HTTPS proxy receives all transactions over an SSL/TLS connection. Once a secure connection with the proxy is established, the user agent uses the proxy as usual, including sending CONNECT requests to instruct the proxy to establish a [usually secure] TCP tunnel with an origin server. HTTPS proxies protect nearly all aspects of user-proxy communications as opposed to HTTP proxies that receive all requests (including CONNECT requests) in vulnerable clear text. With HTTPS proxies, it is possible to have two concurrent _nested_ SSL/TLS sessions: the "outer" one between the user agent and the proxy and the "inner" one between the user agent and the origin server (through the proxy). This change adds supports for such nested sessions as well. A secure connection with a proxy requires its own set of the usual SSL options (their actual descriptions differ and need polishing, see TODO): --proxy-cacert FILE CA certificate to verify peer against --proxy-capath DIR CA directory to verify peer against --proxy-cert CERT[:PASSWD] Client certificate file and password --proxy-cert-type TYPE Certificate file type (DER/PEM/ENG) --proxy-ciphers LIST SSL ciphers to use --proxy-crlfile FILE Get a CRL list in PEM format from the file --proxy-insecure Allow connections to proxies with bad certs --proxy-key KEY Private key file name --proxy-key-type TYPE Private key file type (DER/PEM/ENG) --proxy-pass PASS Pass phrase for the private key --proxy-ssl-allow-beast Allow security flaw to improve interop --proxy-sslv2 Use SSLv2 --proxy-sslv3 Use SSLv3 --proxy-tlsv1 Use TLSv1 --proxy-tlsuser USER TLS username --proxy-tlspassword STRING TLS password --proxy-tlsauthtype STRING TLS authentication type (default SRP) All --proxy-foo options are independent from their --foo counterparts, except --proxy-crlfile which defaults to --crlfile and --proxy-capath which defaults to --capath. Curl now also supports %{proxy_ssl_verify_result} --write-out variable, similar to the existing %{ssl_verify_result} variable. Supported backends: OpenSSL, GnuTLS, and NSS. * A SOCKS proxy + HTTP/HTTPS proxy combination: If both --socks* and --proxy options are given, Curl first connects to the SOCKS proxy and then connects (through SOCKS) to the HTTP or HTTPS proxy. TODO: Update documentation for the new APIs and --proxy-* options. Look for "Added in 7.XXX" marks.

2016-08-05CURLOPT_TCP_NODELAY: now enabled by defaultDaniel Stenberg
After a few wasted hours hunting down the reason for slowness during a TLS handshake that turned out to be because of TCP_NODELAY not being set, I think we have enough motivation to toggle the default for this option. We now enable TCP_NODELAY by default and allow applications to switch it off. This also makes --tcp-nodelay unnecessary, but --no-tcp-nodelay can be used to disable it. 2015-07-17SSL: Add an option to disable certificate revocation checksJay Satiro
New tool option --ssl-no-revoke. New value CURLSSLOPT_NO_REVOKE for CURLOPT_SSL_OPTIONS. Currently this option applies only to WinSSL where we have automatic certificate revocation checking by default. According to the ssl-compared chart there are other backends that have automatic checking (NSS, wolfSSL and DarwinSSL) so we could possibly accommodate them at some later point. 2013-10-15SSL: protocol version can be specified more preciselyGergely Nagy
CURL_SSLVERSION_TLSv1_0, CURL_SSLVERSION_TLSv1_1, CURL_SSLVERSION_TLSv1_2 enum values are added to force exact TLS version (CURL_SSLVERSION_TLSv1 means TLS 1.x). axTLS: axTLS only supports TLS 1.0 and 1.1 but it cannot be set that only one of these should be used, so we don't allow the new enum values. darwinssl: Added support for the new enum values. SChannel: Added support for the new enum values. CyaSSL: Added support for the new enum values. Bug: The original CURL_SSLVERSION_TLSv1 value enables only TLS 1.0 (it did the same before this commit), because CyaSSL cannot be configured to use TLS 1.0-1.2. GSKit: GSKit doesn't seem to support TLS 1.1 and TLS 1.2, so we do not allow those values. Bugfix: There was a typo that caused wrong SSL versions to be passed to GSKit. NSS: TLS minor version cannot be set, so we don't allow the new enum values. QsoSSL: TLS minor version cannot be set, so we don't allow the new enum values. OpenSSL: Added support for the new enum values. Bugfix: The original CURL_SSLVERSION_TLSv1 value enabled only TLS 1.0, now it enables 1.0-1.2. Command-line tool: Added command line options for the new values.

2013-01-16--libcurl: fix for non-zero default optionsYves Arrouye
If the default value for an option taking a long as its value is non zero, and it is set by zero by a command line option, then that command line option is not reflected in --libcurl's output. This is because line 520-521 of tool_setopt.c look like: if(!lval) skip = TRUE; An example of a command-line option doing so is the -k option that sets CURLOPT_SLL_VERIFYPEER and CURLOPT_SSL_VERIFYHOST to 0L, when the defaults are non-zero.

2012-02-23Generate lists and use symbols in --libcurl code output.Colin Hogben
This patch improves the output of curl's --libcurl option by generating code which builds curl_httppost and curl_slist lists, and uses symbolic names for enum and flag values. Variants of the my_setopt macro in tool_setopt.h are added in order to pass extra type information to the code-generation step in tool_setopt.c. If curl is configured with --disable-libcurl-option then the macros call curl_easy_setopt directly.
